Battaglia Palace (formerly Metelli)

Via Metelli 2 - 25030 Erbusco (BS)

Palazzo Battaglia, formerly known as Palazzo Metelli, is located on the internal road that leads from Erbusco to the village of Villa Pedergnano. It is likely that the palace was built or renovated on a previous structure from the late 15th century, as evidenced by the rooms with vaulted ceilings in the shape of a sail or an umbrella. Built by the noble Metelli family towards the end of the 16th century, the property remained in the possession of the Metelli family until the mid-20th century, when it was passed on to the Battaglia family.

The north facade facing the street is outstanding, with symmetrical windows on both the ground floor and the first floor, and an impressive entrance portal with a raised radial frame made of Sarnico stone. The architectural solution of the portico on the south-facing inner facade is particularly noteworthy, with paired columns supporting a rounded arch in the central area, while the four side arches have lower arches and are supported by simple columns. The palace has a U-shaped layout, with the two lateral wings extending southwards from the central body.

Inside, there are various rooms with umbrella-shaped vaults or decorations depicting scenes reflecting the style of the mid-19th century. Adjacent to the northwest wall of the palace, there is a small chapel, the former Oratory of the Holy Guardian Angels. Its facade faces north, towards the street, and features a small entrance portal with wooden doors and Sarnico stone trim, as well as a small triangular tympanum.

The facade is crowned with a triangular tympanum covered in roof tiles, from which a small wrought iron cross stands out. On the west side of the chapel, there is a small bell tower.
