San Lorenzo Parish Church – Zocco-Spina Hamlet

Piazza Paolo VI 8 - 25030 Erbusco (BS)

The San Lorenzo Parish Church is located in the Zocco-Spina hamlet. It already existed in the 16th century with a north-south orientation. The parish church now has an east-west orientation and is the result of continuous structural and decorative transformations and enlargements of the original church. It features a compositional architectural design typical of a seventeenth-century religious building with some eighteenth-century elements. It directly faces the street, while small squares open up to the north and south. Since June 7, 1939, it has been an independent parish.

It has a large and airy facade with a wooden portal above which there is a rectangular window with a narrow balcony supported by shaped columns. Inside, the church has three aisles, with the central one being higher than the two side ones. Each side aisle has semicircular openings at the top and a small door at the bottom for access to the church. The main nave is illuminated by four rectangular stained-glass windows. The apse is flat, and the altar features a compositional design popular in the mid-18th century, with a linear frontal panel in marble in shades of red and white.

In the center there is rayed, silver-plated ostensorium. The soasa, leaning against the perimeter wall, is supported by a rectangular base from which pilasters rise. In the center, there is a tall niche that houses the statue of San Lorenzo with his large gridiron. On the northeast corner of the roof, there is a bell tower with five bells in the belfry, which create a melodious, harmonious sound.
