Casa Longhi stands on Via Verdi, where the Sant’Antonio Hospital, one of the most important in the Brescia area, existed as early as 1278. The monks had reclaimed the land in Erbusco and sold part of the reclaimed properties to private individuals, part to the parish prebend, and part to the Sant’Antonio Hospital, named after its location in an area called “Possessione di Sant’Antonio.” After a period of uncertainty in the 15th century, the property belonging to the Sant’Antonio hospital passed to the Civil Hospital of Brescia Today, the palace stands out for its massive volume and symmetry of openings.
Its architectural design is based on a central body and two lateral wings that overlook a simple courtyard enclosed on the side facing the street. The east-facing façade features a tall wooden portal that leads to the spacious park rich in vegetation, which dominates the entire hill of San Bernardino. The main entrance to the palace is located on the north side of the central body. (testo cambiato) We have no information about the earliest architecture of the palace due to a lack of documentation, but more records are available from the 19th century, when the Brescia General Hospital sold its properties.
After various transitions, it was eventually inherited by Countess Clementina Maggi in the late 19th century. In the course of the 20th century, it passed into the ownership of the Longhi family, the current owners. The various changes in ownership have not negatively affected the structure of the palace, which presents itself in all its austere nobility, with the simplicity of its architectural layout and the rhythm of its symmetrical and balanced openings in relation to the building’s volume.
