Martinengo Fenaroli Valotti Lechi House

Piazza Chiesa 4 - 25030 Erbusco (BS)

Casa Martinengo Fenaroli Valotti Lechi dates back to the sixteenth century. It was originally built as the first residence of the Martinengo family but was transformed into a farmhouse in the seventeenth century. Today, it stands as an elegant and refined aristocratic dwelling with harmonious architectural lines. Over time, the house has changed hands passing to the Fenaroli, Valotti, and Lechi families. In the late 20th century, it underwent a radical restoration. The house is enclosed by high walls along all sides, bordering the street.

It is located to the north of the seventeenth-century Lechi palace, also owned by the Lechi family. The main facade opens onto the square of the Santa Maria Assunta parish church. The portal features rectangular ashlar blocks, with a large dado at the center of the arch, made of hammered Sarnico stone. Above the portal, there are two sandstone corbels that indicate to the existence of a balcony that collapsed in the early 1900s. The west side concludes with a building characterized by a large barrel vault that rests against the perimeter wall of the Lechi villa.

Inside, there is a large garden enclosed on the north side by the house facade and on the other three sides by porticoes with wooden beam ceilings. Under the western portico, a beautiful stone staircase made of Sarnico stone leads to the ancient cellar, measuring 40×8 meters. The southern portico still houses the ancient stone press made of Botticino stone, an old wine press, set within a circular masonry structure with edges highlighted by a radiating pattern of terracotta bricks. The wine press confirms the noble family’s long-standing interest in the agricultural sector during the 16th century.
